Getting the Most from the AI Fire Chief Assistant and Knowledge Base

Two tools, two different jobs

The Knowledge Base (`/knowledge-base`) is reference content — articles like this one, written and fact-checked against real, cited sources, organized by category and searchable. It answers "what does this standard/process actually mean," grounded only in its own verified article content.

The AI Fire Chief Assistant (`/fire-chief`) is different: it's a conversational assistant that reads your department's own real, on-file data (capital plan, funding, apparatus condition, readiness issues, budget, grant awards, mutual aid agreements, SOP status) through the same access controls you already have, and answers questions or drafts a plan from that real data — it does not invent a figure it can't find on file, and every answer shows which real records it actually used.

What neither tool will do, by design

Neither tool asserts legal sufficiency, regulatory compliance, or certification on your department's behalf. Neither one auto-submits, auto-applies, or auto-sends anything on its own — a drafted plan, narrative, or suggested action always requires a human to review it and take the real action themselves on the real page. If a question falls outside what's actually documented, both tools are built to say so plainly rather than fill the gap with a plausible-sounding guess.

When to use which

Use the Knowledge Base when the question is about a standard, a program, or a general concept (e.g., "what's the difference between AFG and SAFER?"). Use the AI Fire Chief Assistant when the question is about *your* department's own specific, on-file situation (e.g., "which of our apparatus are closest to replacement, and what's documented for each?").
