Federal registrations every fire grant applicant needs (UEI, EIN, Login.gov, SAM.gov, FEMA GO)

Grant cycle: FY 2025 AFG and SAFER notices of funding opportunity (NOFOs). "FY 2025" is the federal fiscal year the money was appropriated for — the application period itself ran May 19 – June 22, 2026 (calendar year). Always check the current NOFO before applying.

What every applicant must have

Both the FY 2025 AFG and SAFER NOFOs say all applicants must:

• Unique Entity Identifier (UEI) — apply for, update or verify it, and enter it in the application.
• Employer Identification Number (EIN) from the IRS.
• A Login.gov account.
• An active SAM.gov registration — active before you submit.
• FEMA GO registration — add your organization and establish the Authorized Organizational Representative (AOR), the person allowed to submit for the department.

SAM.gov expires every year

FEMA's SAFER application checklist notes that SAM registration "is only active for one year and must be renewed annually," and must stay active during application review and when FEMA makes the award. Renewal can take time, so start well ahead of any deadline.

Who submits

Only your department's AOR submits the application in FEMA GO. Capital Command helps you prepare; it never submits applications for you.
